The MQ-2 is a semiconductor gas sensor based on Tin Dioxide (SnO2) sensitive material enclosed in a stainless steel mesh housing. In clean air its conductivity is low, but increases as combustible gas concentration rises — allowing accurate gas detection. With 6 pins (4 signal + 2 heater), this bare element is preferred for custom circuit designs and PPM measurement applications. Unlike the module version, it gives raw analog output for precise calibration and multi-gas differentiation. Widely used in industrial and home gas leakage detection systems.
